My general approach to alterations and additions is to carefully assess the architectural merits of the existing building and develop a measured architectural response to meet my clients’ brief. This can vary from replicating the character of the existing building to developing a contrasting solution, known as intervention. This is where a modern contemporary solution is mated to the existing building. It has proved to be a successful approach for past designs and also allows a better response to our modern lifestyle. On occasion a separate, but linked, pavilion design can also be successful.
